Endodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with pain. Treatments in endodontics include root canal therapy, retreatment of failed root canals, and treatment of periapical lesions, as well as root canal treatments for anatomically different teeth.
The innermost layer of the tooth contains the pulp, a bundle of blood vessels and nerves that nourish the tooth. If the pulp of a tooth is damaged due to deep decay, trauma, infection, fracture, or crack, root canal treatment is necessary for the affected tooth.
